Early and Late Effects of Radiation Exposure - Video Lesson
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. This lesson is about the early and late effect of radiation exposure. This is a pretty simple concept. Some radiation effects manifest very soon after the exposure. That's called an early effect. But some radiation effects manifest much later after the exposure. That's called a late effect. Here's a scenario to demonstrate the difference between early and late effects. An older male patient undergoes a routine fluoroscopy procedure. A few weeks later, the patient finds out that he's been diagnosed with cancer. The patient returns to the imaging facility and claims that the radiation exposure he received during the procedure caused his cancer. Is this possible? Could the fluoroscopy procedure have caused his cancer? We can answer this question by understanding the early and late effects of radiation. Early effects occur
